If you are standing among blocks of flats and don’t see any people around, it doesn’t mean that you are alone. There are thousands of people around you. And they are so close, that you can’t run away. The main character is a fifteen-year old girl who feels that her
room, her district, her school and even herself is too small for her. She falls in love,
gets disappointed, her eyes open. Sometimes you just have to take a step forward and jump
into the water. The girl dives out of the district frames, and there is no need to run
away anymore...

Two men meet in a shabby Vilnius restaurant – an old man and a young thug named Vytas. After a couple of shots the old man suggests that Vytas, who is leaving for Bergen the following day, would save the restaurant singer from hardships and take her away from Lithuania.

The year 1992. Lithuania is already independent. The world is watching the events here. Lithuanian citizens celebrate the regained Freedom and… enjoy imported goods which are filling up the shops that used to be empty in the Soviet years. However, the time of the „deficits“ is not yet over.
The story takes place in a factory, where the workers draw lots. The winner will have a chance to buy an IMPORTED refrigerator. Everyone hankers for the fridge, but the main character of the film Danguolė wants it most of all.
Danguolė doesn’t win the fridge. It’s even worse – her neighbour does. But the main character is not left empty-handed: she wins the SPECIAL prize. This means she will be entitled to welcome an American press-photographer who is coming to Lithuania in three days. Danguolė and her family are to represent the New Lithuania to the world in a photoreportage to be issued.
This way the factory worker Danguolė becomes a kind of a Lithuanian ambassador…
“I began writing the script of the film „it would be splendid, yet...“ when i was far away from lithuania. I think that the distance helps me assess the value of things and situations critically and fairly. This was how i viewed events in my film „it would be splendid, yet...“. I treated lithuanians and myself with a shade of irony. It was really tickling to see how, having cast off the subjugation to russia, we turned subserviant to the west on our own free wil. But the film is not meant to condemn or indict anybody. It is more likely to point the finger at the obvious to others and to myself. Although the story happens in the earlier years (1992), the film talks about the present day”, - says director Lina Lužytė.
Lina Lužytė has a BA in Film and TV directing in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Now she is studying the same subject for MA. „It would be splendid, yet... “ is her third short film.

“Souther” is a poetic cinematic fairytale about a man living in his own traps, unable and scared to enjoy life. Full of desire but lacking in decision. Mystic wind drives him into a bizarre town to encounter himself. A day spent in the town turns his life upside down.
“The subject is the monotony of life. When one forgets to enjoy life, some more painful and burning problems come up: alienation, inability to take joy in important things. That is particularly relevant today with us constantly rushing and getting into a sort of a hamster wheel that is turning with us, running inside like mice, afraid to change anything. Monotony then merges, the people around become but signs, we don’t notice them. My film is an invitation for people to slow down and think for a while whether or not they are like the protagonist of the film, balancing on the edge, having forgotten what he lives for? Sometimes it takes so little to feel happy with what you have”, – says director Tomas Smulkis.
Tomas Smulkis was born in Klaipėda on the January 1st, 1986. In 2009 he graduated TV directing in Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Tomas studied in Finland in 2008, now he is continuing studies in master degree of TV directing, in Lithuania.
