Copenhagen, 1944. Denmark is occupied by Nazi Germany. Flame and Citron are two resistance fighters charged with liquidating Danish informers. But when Flame is asked to execute his girlfriend Ketty, an enigmatic Stockholm courier, he questions his orders, wondering who Ketty really is. In the struggle for freedom, all zones appear grey, and it becomes increasingly unclear who is friend and who is foe. Based on true events. “Flame” and “Citron” are the code names for two Danish assassins who brazenly go after high-profile Danish turncoats and, increasingly, the occupying Germans themselves.
“It’s a very expensive film for Denmark (over €6m). It’s set during WWII and the German occupation of Denmark and is about an inner circle of activists who were killing Germans and Danish informers. Their fight became more and more radical, almost like terrorism. So it’s quite a controversial subject matter”, – says director Ole Christian Madsen.
Ole Christian Madsen, born in 1966, Denmark. Graduated in direction from the National Film School of Denmark, 1993. Directed the highly acclaimed 6-part drama series „The Spider“ (1999), and episodes of the TV series „Taxi“ and „Unit 1“. Madsen's feature film debut was „Pizza King“ (1999). His second feature was the critically acclaimed “Kira's Reason – A Love Story” (2001); third “Angels in Fast Motion” (2005) drew a large audience in just a few weeks. “Prague” (2006), another box-office success as well as his newest film – the WW2 resistance drama “Flame & Citron” (2008).
