Gray's fourth film takes place in the Brooklyn neighbourhoods that have characterised all of his work. He has created a film about obsessive love that defies initial expectations, a touching and sincere portrait of characters to believe in and feel for, featuring outstanding performances from its creditable cast. Leonard has moved back in with his parents after a relationship ended in heartbreak. He is depressed and lonely, and his parents are concerned enough to try and set him up with Sandra, the daughter of a close family friend. Yet when Leonard meets Michelle, a beautiful and volatile woman who has recently moved into his parents' apartment block, his head is turned.
